Ergonomie und Verarbeitung
Die Sony Alpha 6500 ist eine äußerst kompakte, aber auch sehr robuste spiegellose Systemkamera. Trotz ihresLeichtmetallgehäuses aus einer Magnesiumlegierung bringt sie betriebsbereit stattliche 450 Gramm auf die Waage. Das Bajonett wurde von Sony nochmals verstärkt, womit es auch große, schwere Objektive tragen können sollte. Was wirangesichts des Preises von knapp 1.700 Euro nur für das Gehäuse jedoch schmerzlich vermissten, war ein Spritzwasser- und Staubschutz, wie ihn andere Hersteller mehrheitlich in dieser Preisklasse verbauen. Sony tut sich mit diesem Thema erstaunlich schwer.

Kompakt ist das Gehäuse vor allem in der Bauhöhe, sie beträgt weniger als sieben Zentimeter. Das sorgt natürlich dafür, dass der kleine Finger je nach Größe der Hand nicht mehr am Handgriff Platz findet. Mit der zwei Zentimeter tiefen und bis zu 2,5 Zentimeter breiten Auswölbung bietet der Handgriff aber genug Platz, um die Kamera sicher halten zu können. Die großzügige, genarbte Gummierung, die sich bis nach hinten in die Daumenmulde zieht, trägt ihren Teil zum sicheren Halt bei.
Trotz der geringen Bauhöhe und des fehlenden Blitz-Sucherbuckels hat Sony einen vollwertigen, großen elektronischen Sucher verbaut. Gelungen ist dieser Trick aufgrund des Bildschirms, der mit seinem 16:9-Seitenverhältnis bei gleicher Diagonale von 7,5 Zentimetern weniger Höhe beansprucht als ein 3:2-Bildschirm. Da der APS-C-Sensor jedoch ein natives Seitenverhältnis von 3:2 besitzt, werden vom 7,5 Zentimeter großen Bildschirm effektiv nur 6,5 Zentimeter für das Livebild verwendet. Die schwarzen Balken links und rechts nutzt Sony immerhin geschickt für Einblendungen von Aufnahmeeinstellungen, die somit zumindest an den seitlichen Rändern nicht über dem Livebild liegen, oben und unten dagegen schon. Mit 921.000 Bildpunkten löst der Bildschirm ausreichend fein auf, leider lässt sich die Farbdarstellung im Gegensatz zum Sucher nicht anpassen. Der Bildschirm kann um etwas mehr als 90 Grad nach oben sowie um gut 45 Grad nach unten geklappt werden, was bodennahe und Über-Kopf-Aufnahmen vereinfacht. Zudem handelt es sich um einen Touchscreen, wobei Sony die Touch-Bedienung nur sehr spärlich integriert hat. Faktisch wird die Funktion nur zum Setzen des Autofokuspunkts genutzt sowiein der Wiedergabe zum Zoomen (durch Doppeltipp statt Zweifingerzoomgeste) und Verschieben des gezoomten Bildausschnitts. Inden Menüs ist keine Touchfunktion aktiv, auch ein Durchblättern der Bilder mittels Wischgeste ist nicht möglich.
Der elektronische Sucher wartet mit einer hohen Auflösung von 2,36 Millionen Bildpunkten auf und bietet mit einer 0,71-fachen Vergrößerung im Kleinbildäquivalent auch ein großes Bild. Aufgrund der kleinen Austrittspupille überblickt man dieses jedoch nur, wenn man sich stark mit dem Auge dem Sucher nähert. Brillenträger haben keine Chance, das Sucherbild zu überblicken. Ihnen bleibt allenfalls die Möglichkeit, die Brille hochzuschieben und die Dioptrienkorrektur von -4 bis +3 dpt zu nutzen. Dank des Näherungssensors wird der Bildschirm automatisch ab- und der Sucher angeschaltet, sobald man die Kamera ans Auge nimmt. Sony hat auch daran gedacht, den Sensor zu deaktivieren, sobald der Bildschirm abgeklappt ist.

Bei den Menüs ist zu erkennen, dass Sony sich Mühe gibt, sie Generation für Generation etwas übersichtlicher zu gestalten, ohne aber die Grundstruktur und den Wiedererkennungswert aufzugeben. So unterteilt sich das Menü in sechs farblichunterschiedliche Hauptkategorien mit je bis zu 14 Unterseiten. Insgesamt gibt es 35 Unterseiten, wenn man viele Kamera-Apps installiert, sogar noch mehr. Man braucht schon etwas Zeit, um sich im Menü zurechtzufinden. Ein Individualmenü mit häufig genutzten Menüpunkten gibt es leider nicht. Dafür lässt sich das aufrufbare Schnellmenü mit seinen zwölf Einstellungen individuell anpassen. Außerdem hat Sony die Alpha 6500 mit ausreichend Tasten versehen, deren Belegung sich teilweise anpassen lässt. Drei der Tasten sind zudem explizit programmierbar und mit "C1" sowie"C2" (jeweils auf der Kameraoberseite in Auslösernähe) und"C3" (auf der Rückseite, sonst Löschtaste bei der Wiedergabe) beschriftet. Vorbelegt sind sie etwa mit der AF-MF-Umschaltung sowie dem Weißabgleich sinnvoll, für die ISO-Empfindlichkeit wurde eine Taste des Vierwegewählers auf der Kamerarückseite abgestellt. Auch über eine AF-L- sowie AE-L-Funktion verfügt die Alpha 6500. Etwas unglücklich platziert ist hingegen die Videoaufnahmetaste. Sie liegt rechts von der Daumenmulde an einer Stelle, wo man gar keine Taste vermuten würde. Sie zu drücken ist verkrampft und gleichzeitig so unerwartet und exponiert, dass sie bisweilen beim Hantieren mit der Kamera versehentlich betätigt wird, da man an dieser Stelle einfach keine Taste erwartet. Man kann sich aber daran gewöhnen.
Mit Schnittstellen ist die Alpha 6500 nicht allzu reichlich ausgestattet. Hinter einer kleinen Klappe, die vernünftig mit einem Scharnier an der linken Kameraseite angeschlagen ist, verbergen sich drei Anschlüsse. Neben einem 3,5 mm Mikrofoneingang und einer Micro-HDMI-Schnittstelle befindet sich hier eine Micro-USB-Schnittstelle, über die der Kameraakku geladen werden kann. Sony liefert ein 1,5 Ampere Ladegerät mit, jedes normale Smartphone-Ladegerät funktioniert aber genauso. Immerhin ist der Akku damit in gut zweieinhalb Stunden wieder voll. Wer den Sony-Akku extern laden möchte, der Bauform ist Sony seit Jahren treu, muss sich eine entsprechende Ladeschale zulegen. Mit dem Micro-USB-Anschluss ist die Kamera aber auch unterwegs, etwa im Auto oder an einer "Power-Bank", schnell wieder mit Energie versorgt, zumal sie auch im eingeschalteten Zustand geladen wird.

Eine weitere Schnittstelle verbirgt sich fast unsichtbar im Handgriff, denn hier befindet sich ein Infrarotempfänger für eine IR-Fernbedienung, die man als Zubehör erwerben kann. Die Alpha 6500 lässt sich aber auch per WLAN drahtlos auslösen. Das Stativgewinde sitzt auf der Kameraunterseite in der optischen Achse und zudem in respektabler Entfernung zum Akku- und Speicherkartenfach. Dennoch ist die Entnahme der Speicherkarte an der Kameraunterseite in dieser Kameraklasse etwas suboptimal, zumal es nur ein Speicherkartenfach gibt, das wahlweise einen MemoryStick oder eine SD-Karte (SDHC- und SDXC-kompatibel) aufnimmt. Mit 350 Aufnahmen nach CIPA-Standard bietet der Akku eine ausreichende Laufzeit, zumal die prozentgenaue Restkapazitätsanzeige auf dem Bildschirm sehr präzise arbeitet. Wer gerne viel fotografiert, ist trotz mobiler Nachlademöglichkeit per USBmit einem Ersatzakku gut beraten. Neben dem fehlenden Spritzwasser- und Staubschutz sowie der Speicherkartenplatzierung ist auch die fehlende Möglichkeit, einen Akku-Hochformatgriff anzuschließen, für diese Kameraklasse ungewöhnlich.
Ausstattung
Alleine schon preislich richtet sich die Sony Alpha 6500 zwar an ambitionierte Fotografen, wer aber einfach ein robustes Werkzeug mit Bildstabilisator im Gehäuse sucht, sich aber nicht mit fotografischen Grundlagen und Einstellungen auseinandersetzen möchte, wird mitder Alpha 6500 ebenfalls glücklich. So verfügt die Kamera über einen Vollautomatikmodus samt Motiverkennung, eine Reihe von Motivprogrammen, digitale Filtereffekte und auch eine HDR- sowie eine Schwenkpanoramaautomatik, die sogar einen Platz auf dem Programmwählrad spendiert bekommen hat. Ihr volles Potential entfaltet die Kamera jedoch erst bei halbautomatischer oder manueller Bedienung. Sogar bei letzterer ist die ISO-Automatik aktivierbar und auch eine Belichtungskorrektur fehlt bei dieser "manuellen Automatik" nicht. Wer sich nicht auf den automatischen HDR-Modus verlassen möchte, der kann auf eine umfangreiche Belichtungsreihenfunktion zurückgreifen, die drei bis neun Bilder mit auf Wunsch großer Belichtungsspreizung aufnimmt. Nur mit dem Selbstauslöser lässt sich diese leider nicht kombinieren.
Der mechanische Verschluss bietet bis zu 1/4.000 Sekunde kurze Belichtungszeiten und ist wie die Kamera sehr robust gebaut. Sony verspricht eine Lebenserwartung von typischerweise mindestens 200.0000 Auslösungen. Um Erschütterungen durch den Verschluss, die zu leichten Unschärfen im Bild führen können, zu vermindern, lässt sich optionalein elektronischer erster Verschlussvorhang aktivieren, der mechanische Verschluss arbeitet dann nur noch am Ende der Belichtung. Wahlweise kann die Alpha 6500 auch vollelektronisch, also ohne mechanische Teile und damit völlig lautlos auslösen. Hierbei kann jedoch der Rolling-Shutter-Effekt die Bildqualität mindern. Auch rein elektronisch beträgt die kürzeste Verschlusszeit 1/4.000 Sekunde und nicht 1/16.000 oder 1/32.000, wie es manche andereHersteller anbieten.
In der Alpha 6500 hat Sony es erstmals geschafft, trotz des kompakten Gehäuses beziehungsweise ohne es zu vergrößern, einen zur Bildstabilisierung beweglich gelagerten Bildsensor zu integrieren. Dieser gleicht mit Bewegungen auf drei Achsen (horizontal, vertikal und in der Rotation) Bewegungen auf fünf Achsen aus. Diese fünf Achsen setzen sich aus Kippbewegungen sowie Schwenkbewegungen jeweils in horizontaler und vertikaler Achse sowie der Rotation zusammen. Sony verspricht bis zu fünf Blendenstufen Verwackelungskompensation nach CIPA-Standard. In der Praxis lief das bei uns auf eher 3,5 bis knapp vier Blendenstufen am langen Zoomende des Setobjektivs 16-70 mm (105 mm entsprechend Kleinbild) und sogar nur 2,5 Blendenstufen am kurzen Ende des Objektivs (24 mm entsprechend Kleinbild) hinaus. Der Bildstabilisator verrichtet also zwar gute Dienste, ist unserem Eindruck nach aber nicht so effektiv wie versprochen beziehungsweise wie wir es beispielsweise von Olympus gewohnt sind, die aber unseres Erachtens nach die aktuell besten Sensor-basierten Bildstabilisierungssysteme bauen.
